General FAQs
-
What should i expect to receive?
If you've purchased into a Group Break, you can expect to receive the cards that relate to the team that you purchased. For example, if you bought the Miami Dolphins, you will receive the cards that have a Miami Dolphins logo on them.
-
Who do I contact if I have an issue with my order?
Please reach out to help@backyardbreaks.com as we track your card across every step of its journey using industry-leading cameras from when it’s pulled from the pack until when it gets loaded on the delivery truck.
-
What happens if i dont hit a card?
We are unaware of the contents in the boxes or cases so it is possible for you to not get a hit. This is part of group breaks and needs to be taken into consideration when purchasing a break spot. If you do not hit a card in the break our fulfillment team will include a stack of base cards or a pack into your package.
-
Do you ship base cards?
It depends on the product. Please check the description of each listing and/or ask the breaker via chat if we’re shipping the base cards for that particular product. For example, in a box of 2023 Prizm Football Hobby, we do not ship out the veteran base cards. Why do we do this? Because these cards are extremely overprinted and considered worthless by the collecting community.
-
What happens if there are two different teams on one card?
There are some cards that have multiple players/teams on them. This can become tricky in a group break where everyone is assigned a different team. We put all customers eligible for the card in random.org and whoever comes out victorious is assigned the card. You get assigned a randomization spot for every player you own on the card. For example, if there’s a card with 5 players on it and you own 4 of them you will have an 80% chance to win the card.
-
How do you handle collegiate products, retired players, and free agents?
Any collegiate cards pulled will be assigned to their current team. If the player is a free agent it is assigned to the last team they were on. If the player is retired it is assigned to the team they spent the majority of their career with. If the player has never been on an NFL team it will be randomed to all people in the break.
-
What happens if the card that is pulled is for a team that doesn't exist anymore?
If a card is pulled for a team that no longer exists, the card will go to the team that the franchise moved to. For example, if a Supersonics card is pulled, it will go to whoever has the Oklahoma City Thunder. If a Milwaukee Braves card is pulled, this will go to the Atlanta Braves.
-
What cards get sleeved and/or toploaded?
This is subjective from product to product but the following is a base guideline: Any patch, auto, key rookie, numbered cards, case hits, short print inserts.
-
How do multi-sport breaks work?
If the breaker is a running a Multi-Sport Break, we have developed a team sheet for NFL teams and their corresponding teams across the NBA, MLB, and NHL. For example, if you purchase the Los Angeles Chargers (NFL), you will also receive any card that comes out for the LA Clippers (NBA), the LA Dodgers (MLB), and the LA Kings (NHL). Some teams may not have a corresponding team on the team sheet. For example, if you purchase the Jacksonville Jaguars, you will not have an NBA team, but you will have the San Diego Padres (MLB) and the Edmonton Oilers (NHL) Check out the full Team Sheet here!
-
What happens with UFC, WWE, Soccer, and Golf cards in a multi-sport break?
If there is a miscellaneous spot in the break, then all these cards will go to the person that has that spot.
If there is no miscellaneous spot and your breaker pulls a UFC, WWE, Soccer, or UFC card - this card will be randomized between every person in the break. These sports do not have a corresponding team on the team sheet. -

-
What is a Live Group Break
A Live Group Break is where people share a box or case of cards/repacks by dividing up the product by team, division, player or some other method. The concept is simple… Why pay for the whole case/box on your own when you can split the cost with other collectors, watch the product get opened live, and have some fun!
-
What is a Pick Your Team or PYT Break
Refers to breaks where collectors split the contents of a product or multiple products according to the predetermined team they purchase. In a typical football PYT Break, collectors purchase a team(s) and receive all the team cards for the team(s) they purchased. For example, if you were to purchase the Houston Texans in a PYT Break you would receive every CJ Stroud card that comes out of the product. This break style is appealing because you only need to purchase the teams you actually care about - for a fraction of the cost of the product(s) being opened. The price of each team is calculated based on our card market analysis for each team.
-
What is a Random Team Break (fixed price)?
A Random Team Break refers to breaks where collectors pay a fixed fee to enter by purchasing a slot(s). Once all slots are purchased we use a randomizer tool to randomly assign each slot to a team/participant. For example, if you were to purchase one slot in a Random Team Break with football product(s) you would pay the same amount as everyone else and have an equal chance to be assigned to one of the 32 teams. This break style is appealing because you can be assigned high-value teams for less than you would pay in a PYT break. On the contrary, if luck is not on your side, you can be assigned low-value teams for more than you would pay in a PYT break. We typically use random.org to assign teams.
-
What is a Random Team Break (Auction Price)?
This is similar to a fixed price random team break but every team is auctioned off starting at $1 (or a low minimum) and the random assignment of teams happens via our physical team deck cards during the fill of the break. If you’re the winning bid for a random team you would tell the breaker a number between 1 and how many cards are left in the deck (a football deck starts with 32). The breaker will then count the cards until he/she reaches the number you gave them at which point you will be assigned that team. The team logos are face down and the team deck is shuffled after every auction so it’s a mystery to everyone as to which team will be assigned. The big differences in these breaks are that the pricing for each team will vary depending on where the auction ends and the randomization is done during the break opposed until after all slots have been purchased. This break style is appealing because you can pick which time you want to bid based on which teams are still left in the deck/how high the bids are going. For example, if you’re a huge Miami Dolphins fan and that team card is still active with only 5 auctions left - it could be a good time to try your luck. But be careful! If you wait too long all your favorite teams may be gone. These types of breaks are only found on Whatnot.
-
What is a Random Division Break?
A Random Division Break is similar to a random team break but is divided up by division, instead of by team. For example, a football break would be divided into NFC South, NFC North, NFC East, NFC West, AFC South, AFC North, AFC East, and AFC West. These breaks also come in fixed price or auction price format.
-
What is a Hit Draft Break?
A Hit Draft Break refers to breaks where every collector gets a hit (typically a card) from a box. We use random.org to determine your position in the draft. The product may be opened before or after we assign your position in the draft. For example, if you entered a Hit Draft Break of a 2022 Panini National Treasures Football (8 cards per box) box you would be competing against 7 other collectors in the draft. If you ended up with spot #2 you would typically get the second-best card in the box depending on the person’s preference drafting ahead of you.
-
What is a Serial Number Break?
A Serial Number Break refers to breaks where every collector gets assigned a serial number (a stamped number that has the print run for that specific card). The number represents the first number of the card numbering - typically referred to as the left side. For example, if you were assigned the number 3, you would get cards that are serial numbered 3/10, 3/25, and 3/99. The number of spots is determined by the product.
-
What is a Duck Duck Goose Break?
Similar to a hit draft but the selection of what card you want comes before you see the rest of the cards in the case. We use random.org to determine your position in the draft before opening any product. Then we open the first card in a case (typically a repack) and the first person in the draft order has the option to “keep” or “pass.” If that person chooses to keep then they are no longer eligible to receive any other card (regardless if it’s more valuable than the one they chose). If that person chooses to pass, the collector behind them has to make a decision whether to keep/pass the card. This break style is appealing because you never know whether the card you’re presented with is the best option or if there are better ones still waiting to come out.

*The Market Value for each card is estimated by a team of sports card industry experts using various data points at the time of packing. However, this does not guarantee the price you can sell the cards for in the future as it depends on multiple factors including but not limited to the following: player performance, sports card market shifts, overall economic health, accuracy of listings, length of the auction, strength of auction house, supply of similar cards available, private dealer relationships, card shows attended, etc.

The Flamethrower team does not produce more than one daily batch per Daily Series. -
How are the values of flamethrowers determined?
The Market Value for each card is estimated by a team of sports card industry experts at the time of packing using various data points including but not limited to eBay, Card Ladder, Alt, PWCC, Goldin, Card Shows, and more!
-
How are market fluctuations handled for Flamethrowers?
Sports Cards values of different sets, players, etc. can change rapidly. For example, if you purchase a Brock Purdy card on Saturday and on Sunday he throws 4 Interceptions - chances are you won’t be able to get the same amount you paid come Monday. Inversely, if he throws for 4 Touchdowns you might see a slight lift in value from what you paid - assuming you paid a fair price. Outside of player performance, there are numerous other factors including supply/demand levels, sellers needing instant liquidity, a collector dumping a collection, macroeconomic trends, and dozens of others. This makes it nearly impossible to predict a card's future value. The old saying goes “Yesterday's price isn’t today's price.” That is why Flamethrowers establishes the market value of the card at the time of packing and physically labels each box with the date it was packed.
-
Do you have a buy-back program?
Yes, we have a buy-back program where we purchase cards from our customers who qualify. You’ll know you qualify when a member from our VIP Concierge team reaches out to you via email, direct message, or text.
-
Are breakers aware of what cards are in Flamethrowers?
No. Although Flamethrower is affiliated with BYB, to maintain the integrity of BYB’s product offerings, BYB is not involved in the buying, building, and curating of repack products or the valuation of any products sold by BYB.
